Robert Montgomery

"Robert Montgomery works in the situationist tradition and continues to relentlessly hijack advertising spaces across the globe in order to provide a reflective space in which a public so used to being psychologically bludgeoned into a consumerist daze can find some respite from the relentless static of the modern world." Dazed.
It's interesting to be bombarded with such emotionally charged melancholic poetry in a public space.

Agustina Woodgate

"Places and Objects are alive, we make them alive, they tell our stories and tales. Sewing poems in clothes in a way is giving the garments a voice. We are in relation -- with others, with things, with the world. This being-in-relation, is a way of perceiving, a mode of moving, a narrative of global truths designed by cultural fictions. Sewing poems in clothes is a way of bringing poetry to everyday life just by displacing it, by removing it from a paper to integrate it and fuse it with our lives. Sometimes little details are stronger when they are separated from where they are expected to be."
I have done a post about Agustina Woodgate's stuffed animal rugs in April but there is something much more successful about her poetry bombing. love it. I love when art can be found in unsuspecting places in public.

Matthew Reamer

Matthew Reamer has photographed the movement of Scraper bikes in Oakland. This trend should not be taken lightly, it has helped many to express themselves and keep young people out of trouble. To learn more about this social movement and positive trend check out their blog as well as the video below. Pretty amazing!

José Castrellón
documented young men in Panama who have personalized their bikes. It's definitely bike culture in Central America at it's best.

The Cheaper Show x Me

I get the award for the longest name that begins with A

Being a part of The Cheaper Show in Vancouver was a real honor. One day. 200 artists. 400 pieces. A really great idea. The quality of work just seemed amazing for 200 dollars -obviously a lot of other people agreed with a line around the block to get in and buy. An estimated 7,000 people came though to see the show in one day!
Today I found out the good news that both my pieces sold and I was included in a Vancouver Is Awesome article on 10 artist that will be shown at The Cheaper Show 10. Here are a couple articles that used my piece to promote the show as well ... here and here.

Richard Renaldi

I love this photography series called "Touching strangers" by Richard Renaldi. It really challenged complete strangers comfort level to just touch someone they didn't know. The project exposes how intimate people can allow themselves to be and also how hesitant. My favorite is the photo above with the two men in front of the neon green wall. You can see the guy's discomfort in just putting his arm around him, his balled up hand refuses to really touch him. so telling. awesome idea.

Casteller

"In the city of Tarragona, Spain, castellers gather every two years to see who can build the highest, most intricate human castles." This is an amazing and wild tradition. I can't believe those little ones going all the way to the top they've got to be so brave and/or have crazy parents. ha.

Theresa Himmer

I really like Theresa Himmer's public work. She brings kitschy 80's hair dressing signs to the modern art world with a very creative twist. Her work reminds me of the hair salon signs around my house growing up and I thought they were so cool as a kid because they sparkled.

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils

I saw Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto or Vhils' work while living in Lisboa, Portugal. Needless to say it totally blew me away. It takes graffiti to a total other level and with such striking portraits... it's just so good.

Lauren Treece

I've been liking Lauren Treece's poloroid images. They are super dreamy and surreal with their celestial lighting and soft colors. purrrty.

Ella Amitay Sadovsky

Ella Amitay Sadovsky is an Israeli artist whose work delicately layers patterns, nature and personal narratives. Her pieces remind me of double exposed photographs but much much better.

Corey Corcoran

Corey Cocoran is a Boston based artist. He explores ecosystems and nature in and around the body connecting them into a beautiful chaos within his pieces. His wild organic lines slide around his work and grow roots quite beautifully.

Nick Bertke (aka Pogo)

I love Pogo's video Disney remixes. I find myself with the tune stuck in my head mumbling all non-words that are collaged together.

soñando despierto...

Hussein Chalayan

Hussein Chalayan, turkish fashion designer, is a graduate of Central Saint Martins. His work is always super inventive and is constantly pushing the idea of fashion and it's fucntion. My favorite are his dresses that transform, blooming and wilting before the audience. The way they breathe so seductively is quite the vision.
