Frida Kahlo is one of the most influencial female painters of the 20th century. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits which often incorporate symbolic portrayals of physical and psychological wounds. She insisted, "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality." Frida Kahlo is one of four daughters born to her Hungarian- Jewish father and her Mexican-indiginous mother.
